George MachinExpert in: Engineering Industry Job Title: Centre Manager - Orchard Park |
About This ExpertHi my name is George Machin and I am currently the centre manager of the Hull Training Orchard Park Campus. After leaving David Lister High School in 1985 I originally enrolled on a training programme with ITeC (Business Academy) before starting my engineering career at British Aerospace (now BAE Systems).
During 17 years there I worked on many projects ranging from civil aircraft such as Airbus to military aircraft like the Red Arrow’s Hawk. I was also lucky enough to work around the country at various sites and airfields.
In April 2003 I started with Hull Training, which was then based at our old site on Studley Street, Holderness Road. Since that time I have had many different roles within the centre including tutor, assessor and centre coordinator. Throughout my career at the centre I have constantly undergone training to help in my own development and the development of the centre itself. The latest of these was the BA(Hons) in Education, a 3 year course studied in my own time at Bishop Burton College.
I believe an engineer is one of the most rewarding trades to be involved in, there is a massive variety of skills and opportunities available with no end to the prospects that the industry can offer.
I would be happy to advise or help anyone looking to be involved with engineering and I also have several employers willing to help and pass on their experiences if required.
Good luck in whatever career you choose.
