Who is this course for?

This qualification provides candidates with the skills and knowledge to deal with first-aid situations. It is suitable for anyone identified by their employer as being suitable to take on the role as first aider in the workplace. This qualification should be undertaken as:

• Initial training
• Annual first-aid skills refresher
• Three-yearly requalification

What will I learn?

The Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with five or fewer employees and to the self-employed.

First aiders must have a valid certificate of competence. There are two approved courses for first aid in the workplace:

• The three-day First Aid at Work (FAW replacing the old four-day course)
• A one-day course Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

By undertaking this course you will learn about the role and responsibilties of a first aider and how to deal with first aid incidents. Not only is first aid an essential skill needed for the workplace but it is also an invaluable life skill.
