Horticulture and Gardening (City and Guilds)

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for school leavers aged 16-18 years with an interest in gardening or horticulture

What will I learn?

The course is designed for those who have an interest in horticulture/gardening or have limited horticulture/gardening experience. It will provide you with the relevant skills and qualifications that you need to work in a horticulture environment. It includes a large amount of practical/outdoor training and some theory training as well. You will also be required to attend functional skills sessions up to level 1 after an initial assessment.
You will learn:
  • Safe and effective working practices
  • Planting of plants
  • Maintenance of plants
  • Maintenance of grass surfaces
  • Vegetative propagation of plants
  • Propagation of plants from seed

What qualifications will I achieve?

  • Level 1 Award in Work-Based Horticulture (QCF)
  • Level 1 Key skills/functional skills

How will I be assessed?

You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and skills. This involves collecting details of work performed while in your work place.

NVQ Level 1 or equivalent
