The Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance, Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Maintenance Operative in the construction industry or progress to further training.

This Building Maintenance, Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations Apprenticeship is a framework of qualifications:

The Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance, Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Maintenance Operative in the construction industry or progress to further training.

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment; this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in two or more of the following disciplines Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Tiling, Plastering, Roofing or Trowel Occupations within the construction industry.

In the classroom and workshop

You will cover knowledge on three core subject areas:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Information, quantities and communication
  • Construction technology

You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:

  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
  • Developing customer relationships
  • Carrying out masonry repairs
  • Carrying out painting and decorating repairs
  • Carrying out plastering repairs
  • Carrying out plumbing repairs
  • Carrying out wood repairs
  • Carrying out tiling repairs
  • Carrying out roofing repairs

With your Employer

You will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
  • Delivering Reliable Customer Service

You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in some of the following optional units:

  • Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms in the workplace
  • Clearing the site and handing over on completion in the workplace
  • Establishing work area protection and safety in the workplace
  • Repairing, replacing and renewing gates, posts and fencing in the workplace
  • Maintaining non-structural carpentry work in the workplace
  • Maintaining non-structural or structural components in the workplace
  • Applying paint systems by brush and roller in the workplace
  • Preparing background surfaces for plastering, tiling, panelling or painting/decorating in the workplace
  • Hanging standard paper wall coverings in the workplace
  • Tiling wall and floor structures in the workplace
  • Removing and renewing floor screeds in the workplace
  • Preparing background surfaces for plasterwork in the workplace
  • Applying finishing plaster to background surfaces in the workplace
  • Maintaining slate and tile roofing in the workplace
  • Repairing roof sheeting and cladding systems in the workplace
  • Removing and repairing eaves and verge finishings in the workplace
  • Repairing membrane roofing systems in the workplace
  • Repairing basic stonemasonry structures in the workplace
  • Repairing and maintaining masonry structures in the workplace

You do not need any prior qualifications to undertake this level 2 qualification

If you have any relevant experience, you may already have the skills and knowledge required to undertake this qualification.

Duration: One day each week in the centre for 18 months, during which you gain the knowledge to be able to compile the required evidence. Learners need to be employed to gain the practical experience and achieve the competence level required.
