What is the course about?
You will develop your skills and knowledge of how to design and make any kind of ceramic including pottery on the wheel and ceramic sculpture. The medium of clay will allow you to make endless 3D forms and designs and enable you to complete a ceramic project of your choice.
The course content will be negotiated to meet your needs and will include some of the following:
- Basic clay handling.
- Basic hand building techniques.
- Generating design ideas.
- Techniques for throwing on the pottery wheel.
- Exploring the varied methods of alternative firing, slip work and glazing techniques.
What do we expect from you?
You will be required to attend an induction to establish your current level of skills and knowledge. At the induction session you can talk to the tutor about your projects and will be advised about the equipment you will require prior to the start of each course.
Regular attendance is essential for progression to a higher level and you will be encouraged to explore your ideas further at home.
Recognising and recording your progress and achievement
As with all learning it is important for you to know how you are progressing.
Your learning on this course will be recorded through the individual learning goals that you agree and set with your tutor at the beginning of each course.
This will allow you to see, as you work towards those learning goals, how well you are learning, what you have achieved, and how you have progressed during the course.
