Course Content

This workshop-style, learning experience will allow you to build upon and develop your knowledge by working on a self-chosen, individual textile project benefitting from the guidance of a qualified sewing tutor.

Each session you will observe tutor demonstrations and explanations of techniques and processes which support and meet the individual needs of learners and the personal projects undertaken.

The classes are not suitable for absolute beginners, you must be able to thread up and use a sewing machine.

You will need to bring all the elements required to complete your project:

  • Garments
  • Repairs
  • Paper pattern/book/instructions
  • Fabric
  • Threads
  • Notions – zips, buttons
  • Haberdashery etc

The tutor will talk with you and answer any questions you may have at the induction session.

Assessment Method

This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.

RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
