Family Learning English (blended)
Aimed at parents and carers of children that want to improve their English skills be able to support their child’s learning. This will allow parents or carers and their children to make the most of the opportunities in education.
You will develop strategies to support your child’s learning at school and at home. You will improve your knowledge of how your children learn as well as how their play, language and literacy develop. This will help you to identify your child’s individual needs and support their learning.
There are no entry requirements; an initial assessment will inform us of what you need to work towards.

The course will help you to improve your own skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing through:
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar exercises
- Reading different types of text and identifying their features
- Planning, drafting and checking your writing
- Using informal and formal language
- Speaking and listening skills for discussions and presentations
You will learn at your own pace through:
- Group, paired or individual tasks
- Paper based activities
- Demonstrations and practical activities
- Independent study
You will complete a Functional Skills English qualification at Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2. Achieving a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification will allow you to meet the English requirements of many jobs in the labour market.
You will be able to progress onto further/higher education.
A Level 1 qualification is equivalent to GCSE grade D-G level. A Level 2 qualification is equivalent to GCSE grade A*-C level.
Speaking and Listening
You will complete a Functional Skills English qualification at Entry 3, Level 1 or Level 2.
