Guitar and Ukulele Beginners (classroom-based)

This is a beginners classroom-based course designed for people wanting to explore the basics of playing the guitar or ukulele and get them playing songs within a few lessons.
This course is available for learners new to Hull Training and Adult Education only. Learners who have previously enrolled on any course with Hull Training and Adult Education will not be eligible.
Own guitar or ukulele preferred.

Some of the fundamental techniques that will be covered are:
- Tuning the instrument
- Adopting correct posture and good technique
- Playing chords
- Learning popular strumming patterns
- Reading charts and tablature
- Performing as a group
- Performing to a backing track
The tutor will also take requests at the beginning of the term and implement these into the course content if it is applicable.
We have a few guitars that learners can borrow while in the centre (left handed, right handed, electric or acoustic)
This course uses RARPA as its method of assessment.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
