This 3 week online course introduces the basic skills and handling techniques and will guide the learner through the process of making maquettes in air drying clay.
You will need basic IT skills, and access to a computer/tablet or telephone allowing you to use Google Classroom, the free Microsoft Teams App and research artists online. You will also need a minimum of 1kg white or buff air drying clay, basic clay modelling tools is helpful but not essential, some florists wire and making tape.

This course is aimed at anyone who would like to have a go at 3D Modelling, using air drying clay and will begin in week one with how to make an armature and the benefits an armature brings to the artist.
In week two you will learn how to clad your piece with clay, different ways of applying clay to the frame, ways of strongly joining the clay to protect against breakages and how to keep the clay damp so that you can work on your piece at your leisure.
In week three we will learn about definition and detail and tips and skills to refine your piece, and how to dry your clay out so that it can be decorated.
This course can lead to a Gateway Level 1 Award in Creative Craft. You will receive guidance and support identifying and setting individual targets, feedback along your creative journey and support to achieve your aims.
Where can it lead?
Once you have built up your confidence and skills the world of progression opens up to you. You can progress onto further accredited Pottery classes or even stretch your craft skills by enrolling onto other courses which interest you.
Learning new skills can enhance your C.V. as these give you interesting talking points, showing diverse activities and an interest in your progression.
