Course Aims
Learn about different animal and plant-based fibres and how to turn them into yarn from start to finish. Make yarn to turn into a display for the Avenues centre.

Course Content
During this six-week short course you will be taught an overview of all the steps in the process of making yarn by hand.
- Different animal and plant-based fibres
- Spinning using a drop spindle
- Plying
- Soaking and finishing
- Ball and skein winding
- An overview of natural dyeing
The yarn made on this course will be made into an exhibit and displayed in the Avenues Centre celebrating its 135th year.
Assessment Method
This course uses RARPA as its method of assessment.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
