Joinery Apprenticeship Level 3

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Site Carpentry qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Site Carpentry in the construction industry or progress to further training.

The Level 3 apprenticeship in Site Carpentry is a framework of qualifications:

Diploma + NVQ + Employer Rights & Responsibilities + Functional Skills (if A* – D GCSE grades not obtained).

The Level 3 in Site Carpentry qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Site Carpentry in the construction industry or progress to further training.

This qualification supports the learner to gain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge. Industry will accept the qualification on its own as entry to a job role.

The Level 3 NVQ in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment; this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry within the construction industry or progress on to further learning.

In the classroom and workshop

You will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Technical information, quantities and communication
  • Construction industry and the built environment

You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge including:

  • First fixing operations
  • Second fixing operations
  • Setting up and operating cutting and shaping machinery
  • Erecting complex structural carcassing components
  • Maintaining non-structural and structural components

With your employer

You will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Installing Bespoke First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Bespoke Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
  • Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace

You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in two of the following optional units:

  • Erecting structural carcassing components in the workplace
  • Maintaining non-structural or structural components in the workplace

Erecting complex roof structure carcassing components in the workplace

If you have already undertaken a Level 2 qualification in Site Carpentry or a similar qualification or have relevant experience, you may already have the skills and knowledge required to undertake this qualification.

A* – D GCSE grades in maths & English
An employer

On completion of the Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 4 NVQ  in Construction Site Supervision
