Course Aims
This workshop will help you gain awareness of the basic Makaton, by combining signs and symbols to aid those with developmental language disorders, to be able to communicate and be understood.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements.
Children of all ages are welcome to attend. Maximum 2 children per adult.

Course Content
This session will include discussing commonly asked questions, hints, and tips for effective signing and symbol use. It will also include how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work.
Assessment Method
This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications.

You could progress on to courses such as:
- BSL qualification (by undergoing Introduction to British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness course first)
Careers such as:
- Interpreter
- Support Assistant
