Do you feel unsure about your maths skills? Do you want to build your confidence in maths? This short four-week classroom-based course explores how maths is used in the real world.
This short course aims to expand on learning from our one day Engage workshops but you do not need to have attended any of these.

This classroom based course looks at maths in the real world in different fields. You will learn what the numbers mean and build your confidence with the numbers that are all around us.
Week 1: Numbers in nature
- How many earths would fit into the sun? Discover the numbers in science and nature
Week 2: Numbers in health
- How healthy are you? Learn about numbers in health and the measurements we can take
Week 3: Numbers in psychology
- How confident are you? Can we measure it and other ideas in psychology with numbers? Explore how we measure personality with numbers
Week 4: Numbers in the news and next steps
- Can we trust the numbers in the news? There are lots of statistics in the news but what do they really tell us. Should we believe what we read?
This course uses RARPA as its method of assessment.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
