Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship Level 2 and Level 3

The mechanical engineering profession has always relied on a strong vocational intake every year.
Mechanical engineering technicians design, install and repair industrial plant machinery and parts.
This course develops your practical skills in a range of disciplines, which could include milling, turning, welding and sheet metal work. These
skills are highly sought after by local employers and prepares you well for a great career in a mechanical engineering environment.

You will perform much of your work in our fully equipped industrial standard workshops where you will undertake individual training and work on group projects.

This programme will develop your engineering skills, knowledge and practical experience by working with machine tools, centre lathes and milling machines. You will develop hand fitting skills by producing a number of practical components, understand engineering materials and technical drawings and be able to communicate technical information effectively.

You will develop a variety of practical and theory skills relevant to the mechanical engineering industry including:

• mechanical maintenance,
• manual metal arc welding,
• milling, turning,
• basic electrics,
• computer numerical control machining engineering hand skills.

Training could also include producing mechanical drawings using computer aided design (CAD).

The programme will include mandatory requirements of the Apprenticeship framework; an NVQ, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.

To enrol on this apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have GCSEs at
Grades A*- G (preferably English, Maths and IT)

You will be required to complete an entry assessment and interview.

We work with a large number of partner organisations who can provide employment as part of our apprenticeships. During the interview you will be able to find out more on how we can help and support you in finding employment.

On completion of the Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship programme or employment. This could then lead to further qualifications such as NVQ Level 4, HNC or a degree.
