Course Aims

With 1 in 5 of us suffering in silence, it is important that we are equipped with knowledge and strategies to help you actively manage your mental health.

Mental health is one of the most pressing issues of our time; on this course we aim to increase your understanding of common mental health conditions and be aware of your own mental health, including how or when it might be triggered, and what you can do about it.

This Mental Health Awareness Course is ideal for anyone who wants to develop their knowledge and understanding of mental health principles and learn useful skills that will benefit them within the workplace and everyday life.

This course provides information to raise awareness of the issues surrounding poor mental health and the misconceptions and health problems and the rights those with mental health issues have.

Course Content

During this 12-week course you will complete the following units:   

  • Be aware of what is meant by mental health
  • Be aware of some of the social and personal effects of mental ill-health
  • Be aware of some of the responses to mental health issues
  • Be aware of cultural diversity in relation to mental health issues

 

Assessment Method

To achieve the Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness, you must demonstrate successfully your achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria detailed in the qualification specification. Grades are not awarded.

The mandatory unit will be internally assessed using a Candidate Workbook covering all the learning outcomes of the qualification.

  • Level 2 Award in Suicide Awareness
  • Level 2 Award in Introduction for Workplace Health Champions
  • Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness
  • Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace

This course could lead to working in a variety of settings within the public, private, voluntary and community sector such as:

  • Counselling
  • Psychology
  • Community work
  • Social work
