Course Content

This course is designed for those who practice regularly and who would like to develop a deeper understanding of the foundations of yoga.

Each session will begin with a foundational discussion on yoga, covering the importance of breath, mindfulness, the effect of yoga on both the body and mind and the benefits of a consistent practice.  The sessions combine pranayama (breathwork), coordinated with flowing (vinyasa), and static postures designed to build strength, release tension and help settle the mind.

We will revisit the importance of the breath and be encouraged to tap into its benefits of releasing tension in the subtle body (energetic body).

You will spend time using asana (postures) to empower the body creating strength and flexibility.  At the end of each session, you will be guided through a meditation to ease the mind and soothe the body for your week ahead.

You will build your yoga practice progressively from one week to the next, and by the end of the five weeks you will have a firm foundation on which to continue your own yoga practice whether that be at and adult education centre or even on your own.

Some of the overall benefits you can expect to experience from this course are:

  • Improved breathing and breath control
  • Improved strength and flexibility
  • Improved balance
  • Enhanced mindfulness
  • Stress management
  • Sense of community

We aim for you to leave this course feeling lighter, brighter, relaxed with a handy tool kit of yoga to nurture a greater sense of self – awareness and overall wellbeing.

What you will need

  • Comfy clothing – layers are best as you will heat up and cool down quickly after your session
  • Bottle of water
  • Light snack – cereal bar/fruit

Yoga mats, blocks and blankets will be provided but feel free to bring your own.
