Course Aims

If you would like to advance your practical skills in Pottery, Ceramics and Mixed Media, then the Level 2 Award in Creative Ceramics is for you!

It is a largely practical course which gives you the opportunity to develop and practise your creative skills required to progress in the Pottery sector.  This will include developing creativity, through project development, using diverse methods of hand building and sculpting through decoration techniques. You will also develop analytical skills enabling you to progress in your subject specialism.

This course allows you to study on a part time basis, attending one three-hour session a week so it can be accommodated alongside employment, childcare and other commitments. It might be of particular interest if you are wanting a career change or just wanting to experience something different and enhance your practical and creative skills.

There is a greater level of challenge on this course and is suitable if you have achieved a Level 1 qualification or who have some experience of Pottery/Ceramics.

Entry Requirements

You should have achieved a Level 1 qualification in pottery/ceramics. If you wish to throw on this course, you must have completed a throwing course with the tutor or be proficient at throwing.  You will also require a basic knowledge of written English as well as a commitment to achieving the qualification.

You will need access to a computer to complete your work online.

Course Content

The course is made up of three units and focuses on developing the necessary skills and knowledge to design and construct ceramic projects. You will be given practical tuition on the use of various pottery equipment.  You will produce a portfolio which will support your progression at job interviews and/or further study.

You will benefit from teaching and guidance from experienced staff who have good links to the local creative industries and will benefit from learning skills to support employment in the fashion industry.

Assessment Method

Research and building a portfolio of practical samples as well as a producing a ceramic project.

Development is progressive taking you through a series of practical workshops and assignments where you will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the subject as well as your practical skills.

As well as practical samples, you will have to produce some written work, photographs during the developmental stages and written evaluations of your finished projects.
