Course Aims
For those with no experience in the subject, or very basic knowledge, over the course of five weeks we aim to help you gain confidence by learning how to make small, low bowls on the pottery wheel and glazing it so it can be used functionally at home.

Course Content
You will learn how the wheel works and how to operate the equipment safely. You will practically learn how to centre clay on the wheel and develop a basic understanding of decorating techniques using stoneware glazes.
- Basic clay handling
- Basic centring techniques
- Controlling the clay on the wheel
- Exploring glazing techniques by practically decorating your work
Assessment Method
This course uses RARPA as its method of assessment.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.

You may wish to progress on to one of our other pottery and ceramics courses or take a qualification in the subject, such as:
Level 1 Award in Craft Skills using Natural Materials
Level 2 Certificate in Creative Crafts
