Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship Level 2

The Level 2 in Painting & Decorating qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Painting & Decorating in the construction industry or progress to further training.

The Level 2 Apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating is a framework of qualifications.

Diploma + NVQ + Employer Rights & Responsibilities + Functional Skills (if A* – D GCSE grades not obtained).

The Level 2 in Painting & Decorating qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work in Painting & Decorating in the construction industry or progress to further training.

This qualification supports the learner to gain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge. Industry will accept the qualification on its own as entry to a job role.

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Painting & Decorating qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment; this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in the construction industry or progress on to further learning.

In the classroom and workshop

You will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Technical information, quantities and communication
  • Construction technology

You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:

  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
  • Preparing surfaces for decoration
  • Applying paint systems by brush and roller
  • Applying standard papers to ceilings and walls
  • Producing specialist decorative finishes
  • Applying water-borne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment

With your Employer

You will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:

  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
  • Preparing surfaces for Painting/Decorating in the Workplace

You do not need any prior qualifications to undertake this level 2 qualification. However, we do offer a Level 1 in Painting & Decorating which will give you the knowledge and skills required to work in the construction industry.

If you have undertaken a Level 1 qualification in Painting & Decorating or have relevant experience, you may already have the skills and knowledge required to undertake this qualification.

You may wish to progress onto:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing – Painting and Decorating
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Heritage Skills – Decorative Occupations
  • Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating

Venue: Endeavour Learning and Skills Centre

Duration: One day each week in the centre for 18 months, during which you will gain the knowledge to be able to compile the required evidence. Learners need to be employed to gain the practical experience and achieve the competence level required.
