Build on your knowledge of painting techniques, and develop practical skills in producing creative artworks. In studying for this qualification, you will enrich your knowledge of professional Art & Design practice in the creative sector, through meeting deadlines for projects with appropriate targets, similar to a commercial client brief, and case studies of successful local Art & Design practitioners.
You will work with your tutor to write your own project and create a developed outcome –
- mixed media painting
- photorealist self-portrait in water-mixable oils
- Textural studies testing applications of paint on a range of surfaces.

Unit 106: Using Painting Techniques
1.1 identify health and safety regulations related to painting
1.2 identify tools, equipment and materials used for painting
1.3 describe the care of tools and equipment used for painting
1.4 use tools, equipment and materials safely when producing paintings
This as an accredited course and evidence of achievement is by creating a portfolio of evidence.
Where can it lead?
HTAE GCSE equivalent Level 2 Certificate in Art & Design
Skills and Employability courses which explore the relevance and applications of Art & Design in commercial contexts, including Digital Skills through Arts and Media, and introductions to journal design through the Sketchbook Adventures course.
