To gain knowledge and skills to produce simple pot/ceramic items and gain a basic understanding of how to offer items for sale at craft fairs, or online platforms.
This course is available for learners new to Hull Training and Adult Education only. Learners who have previously enrolled on any course with Hull Training and Adult Education will not be eligible.
There are no entry requirements.

Learn practical clay/ceramic skills and techniques which will be embedded through a variety of pottery projects suitable for your level of skill and ability, by creating a number of simple clay pieces
- Basic clay handling.
- Basic hand building techniques.
- Techniques for throwing on the pottery wheel.
- Exploring the varied methods of alternative firing, slip work and glazing techniques.
This course is assessed through RARPA and you will receive guidance and support identifying and setting individual targets, feedback along your creative journey and support to achieve your aims.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
Where can it lead?
Qualifications in subject areas such as:
- Level 1 Award Craft Skills using Natural Materials
- Level 2 Certificate in Creative Crafts
These skills could be used in the following job roles:
- Ceramics Designer
- Kiln Operative
- Own Business
