Course aim

To reduce waste and landfill and save money by gaining some basic knowledge and understanding of how to repair garments and textile items by replacing buttons and zips, sewing by hand or using the sewing machine.

Qualifications and assessment

This course uses RARPA as its method of assessment. 

RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.

How to set up the sewing machine to sew buttons 

How to use the sewing machine to attach different types of buttons

How to replace 3 types of buttons on garments/textile items, by hand and using the sewing machine
