Course Aims
This classroom-based course will enable you to gain crucial language skills for work or social purposes. You will expand your cultural knowledge and improve communication skills when travelling abroad for pleasure and/or work.
This qualification will also provide you with the opportunity to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding in the main areas of reading and writing and it is linked to the Common European Framework.
Entry Requirements
This course is part of our Spanish programme which is open to anyone age 19 years and above. You may benefit if you have attended a complete beginner’s Spanish course, however it is not essential. Prior to enrolling you will be invited to attend an Initial Assessment that will take approximately 20 minutes.

Course Content
During the course you will be focussing on the themes of:
- Meeting and greeting
- Family, dates and special occasions
- Jobs and professions
- Bar and Restaurant
- Asking and giving directions
On successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to communicate in and understand Spanish on a number of practical everyday matters as well as read simple messages including questions or requests for information on familiar subjects and produce a written response in this language.
Assessment Method
This as an accredited course and evidence of achievement is by creating a portfolio of evidence.
Where can it lead?
You may wish to develop your skills further on the next Spanish course and gain a qualification in speaking and listening. This could encourage you to progress on to a higher-level language course in the future.
You may also have an interest in some of our other Community Learning courses such as photography, dressmaking, guitar or computer skills, English, maths and employability courses. Your tutor will be able to provide more information about this at the end of your course.
