Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings.

Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings.

They are aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings.

These qualifications provide pathways into the sector for anyone considering a career in health and/or social care. Helping them to gain the information needed to make decisions about their chosen career progression.

The course will develop the learners knowledge and awareness of working practices within the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. The course is delivered over 3 days a week and will include a variety of topics from
• The importance of being able to work in a team
• Communication skills
• How and why different mobility aids are used
• Health and Safety
• Reducing risks in a care setting
• Safe moving and handling techniques
• How to provide personal care to clients
• How to deal with minor accidents in the care setting
In addition you will work on your English & Maths and have an opportunity to undertake a sustained period of work experience with a variety of employers and providers across the city. You will also be offered a number of additional courses that aim to support and prepare you for the future and your progress to employment and further learning. Our occupationally experienced tutors will support you through the course and help you develop your skills and
experience within the sector. Opportunities to train in our occupational workshops within
the Centre.

You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and skills. The evidence is collected through practical activities and assignments. An extended period of work experience will be available throughout the learning to build confidence of working in a real work environment.

You will need a keen interest in and want to work in the Health and Social industry in the future.

From Level 1, you can move onto a Level 2 Health and Social Care course or from Level 2
progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care.
