This course is designed to give you, as the learner, a real introduction to catering and the hospitality industry.
This course is designed to give you, as the learner, a real introduction to catering and the hospitality industry. During the course you are encouraged to take part in work experience which is key to preparing you for an apprenticeship or work which should be the next stage. The key to this programme is the time you will spend in the kitchen with your tutor. You will learn a wide range of preparation and cooking methods starting from the basic up to more advanced skills and techniques. All tutors have a wide range of industry experience which will help make this course relevant and challenging.
You will study the following units –
- Food production & Cooking
- Food & Beverage
- Hospitality service (mix)
- Food Hygiene – How to store, prepare and cook safely
- Health & Safety – Keeping yourself safe within the workplace
- Preparation and cooking of a variety of different food products
In addition you will work on your English & Maths and have an opportunity to undertake a sustained period of work experience with a variety of employers and providers across the city. You will also be offered a number of additional courses that aim to support and prepare you for the future and your progress to employment and further learning. Our occupationally experienced tutors will support you through the course and help you develop your skills and experience within the sector. Opportunities to train in our occupational workshops within the Centre.
You will require a passion for cooking and /or customer service.
After completion you can progress into employment or onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
