This week we have celebrated both National Apprentice Week (NAW) and National Careers Week (NCW). Both campaigns give us the ideal platform to talk to potential and existing learners about their dreams and aspirations.
Staff from across Hull Training and Adult Education pull out all the stops to engage and inspire those who are starting out on their career pathways.
As ever we are supported by many local schools, colleges and stakeholders. We thank Malet Lambert, St. Mary’s College, Sirius West, Winifred Holtby, Wyke College, Job Centre Plus and the Unite Union for inviting us to take part in their apprenticeship and careers events.
We have also held a number of open events during the week, so potential learners can meet our staff, tour our facilities and find out more about what we do. These events enable us to explain the benefits of apprenticeships and to find out more about how we can help them to reach their goals. It was lovely to hear from a parent who attended our Engineering event. She told us,
“I would just like to thank you all for being so friendly, helpful and very informative.
It is a big headache trying to set your child on the right path as we all want our children to do well. I feel a lot more positive after talking to you all and feel you will guide him in the right direction”.
The campaign weeks for us are about celebrating learning. Current apprentices and learners at the Endeavour Learning and Skills Centre enjoyed a visit from Emma Hardy, MP for Hull West and Hessle. She spent time with them and found out first-hand what it is like to be an apprentice. She also had a go at building a brick wall!
During her visit with Health and Social Care learners she talked to them about their short, medium and long term careers goals. Everyone really enjoyed Emma’s visit and took inspiration from her about her own career pathway and where it has led her. Having external speakers come in to see us is a wonderful way for us to demonstrate that dreams are possible. Our learners also shared with Emma what they want to do in the future.
As ever it’s been a hectic, but rewarding week. It’s only just over and we are already considering how we are going to celebrate NAW 2019 and NCW 2019!
