Course Aims
You will learn how to throw cylinders over 10cm by the end of the course.
Entry Requirements
This course is suitable for those who can already throw independently and make on-centre cylinders of 10cm or more. This is an ideal progression course from the Improve Your Basic Throwing Skills course.

Course Content
During this six-week introductory course, you will learn how to centre clay on the wheel with the intention of being able to draw up low cylinders creating tea beakers by the end of the course. These will be glazed using 1 stoneware glaze.
Week 1 – Studio and equipment Health & Safety induction and basic centring skills and Wedging clay
Week 2 – Practise centring making an 8 cm cylinder
Week 3 – Drawing up clay from the base increasing the height of your low cylinder to 9cm
Week 4 – Turning work and tips for refinement, throwing a 10cm beaker and saucer
Week 5 – Turning beaker and saucer adding etching / embellishments
Week 6 – Glazing using stoneware glazes
Assessment Method
You will be assessed by:
- Tutor observation
- Photographic evidence
- Learner finished product
- Witness testimony
