Course Aims
If you have a good basic knowledge of this subject and feel confident in completing multi-step tasks and activities on the pottery wheel, then this is the course for you!
During this six-week course, you will further your throwing abilities by concentrating on scaling up the weights of clay that you can centre and successfully throw enabling you to confidently create taller vessels.
Entry Requirements
You must have a basic understanding of throwing techniques and be able to centre clay and draw up walls.

Course Content
Over the duration of six weeks, you will throw with larger weights of clay each session, enabling you to practically develop the skill and your own personal confidence in your throwing on the pottery wheel. You will glaze your work exploring surface texture and colour using functional food safe stoneware glazes.
You will:
- Learn techniques and skills that will help you to hone your throwing knowledge
- Learn to successfully maintain the clays centre of gravity when throwing on the wheel
- Explore different clay bodies and learn how they can be used to help you to achieve your design aims
Assessment Method
This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
