Course Aims

If you have completed the six-week Learning about Children’s Behaviour course, then this course is for you!

You will further your knowledge and understanding of how to support your children’s behaviour.

Course Content

This six-week course will focus on furthering your knowledge and understanding of how to support your children with the following:

  • Why do you feel angry?
  • How can anger affect me?
  • Getting help for anger
  • What if you can’t remove triggers?
  • Responding to behaviour that challenges
  • Dangers of negative labelling
  • Why labelling is bad and how a growth mindset can help
  • Discipline and self-discipline
  • What is self-discipline?
  • Emotions that can be difficult to cope with
  • Mental health and well-being
  • The law on smacking
  • Own parenting strategies and focus on new strategies whilst working with your family.
  • Trust

Assessment Method

This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.

RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.

This course has links to childcare, education, psychology careers or courses.

You could progress on to courses such as:

  • Functional Skills English
  • Functional Skills Maths
  • Mental Health courses

This course would be useful in the following roles:

  • Lunchtime Supervisor
  • Teaching Assistant/Classroom Assistant
  • Childminder
