Course Aims
You will hand-build projects specifically meant for the Raku firing process using Raku clay and a selection of glazes.
This course will help you to build on previous knowledge and skills to design a unique piece.
Entry Requirements
You must have completed the beginner’s course in RAKU techniques OR already know how to hand-build with clay.

Course Content
During this 12-week course, you will hand-build with clay to create projects suitable for the Raku kiln. This will include researching ideas and converting them into Raku clay.
You will learn about and try the different techniques within the Raku family.
You will use the following different methods:
- Pinching
- Slabbing
- Coiling
- Applying different decorative glazes and techniques
This will include two Raku firing sessions.
Assessment Method
This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.
RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.
